Fibromyalgia Awareness Fair (May 11 - 13)
In honor of Fibromyalgia Awareness Day, May 12th, Fibro Aware is hosting a Fibromyalgia Awareness Fair. This is not a fundraising event, it is being held in order to promote awareness of fibromyalgia in the Second Life community.
There are several boards with information about fibromyalgia and the events in the fair, touch them to get the notecards with the info. You can get a fibromyalgia awareness ribbon and coffee mug by the information boards, and several shops have made some freebies for this event.

"In 1993, May 12 was designated as the International Awareness Day for Chronic Immunological and Neurological Diseases (CIND) by Tom Hennessy, the founder of RESCIND, Inc. (Repeal Existing Stereotypes about Chronic Immunological and Neurological Diseases), to memorialize the birth date of Florence Nightingale, the English army nurse who inspired the founding of the International Red Cross. Nightingale contracted a paralyzing, CIND-like illness in her mid-thirties and spent the last 50 years of her life virtually bedridden. Despite her illness, she managed to found the world’s first School of Nursing."
"What is Fibromyalgia?
Fibromyalgia (pronounced fy-bro-my-AL-ja) is a complex chronic pain disorder that affects an estimated 10 million Americans. While it occurs most often in women, it strikes men and children, and all ethnic backgrounds. For those with severe symptoms, fibromyalgia (FM) can be extremely debilitating and interfere with basic daily activities."
